The Labrador Club of Scotland Championship Show 6/4/24

Firstly I wish to convey my thanks to the Committee for asking me to judge the males . This
show is an old favourite of mine so I was delighted to accept the invitation . My thanks also
to the exhibitors who gave me some lovely labs to go over, and who accepted my decisions
with good grace . It was a quality entry and I have no doubt that some of these will get their
titles in years to come . Exhibits were presented well, and movement was largely good . All
temperaments were excellent.

Baby Puppy Dog (4,0)

st Cook’s Exelby Finch . Headed a class of lovely babies . Super head,and plenty of
substance about him. Everything in the right place and he stood foursquare . A bit all over
the place on the move but once he got it together he was straight and true . I wouldn’t
change a thing about him . A lovely puppy to go on with .

nd Druggan’s Balladoole Black Tie . Almost a month in age between him and the winner and
it showed in make and shape . A bigger, lengthier puppy . Very sweet head and expression
with an excellent front. Level topline . Good rear angulation . Ever wagging tail with a very
happy disposition . Splitting hairs but in the end I just preferred the chunkiness of the
winner . Still, a very good type who will do well .
Veteran Dog (4,0)

st Williamson’s Sharouns Ventriloquist For Tempaskell JW. Yellow who is slighter than some
but is so well balanced with excellent overall construction . No excess or anything overdone
about him . Typical head , lovely expression ,neat ears which could be used more to
advantage .Clean in neck , good front, good bone and neat feet . Level topline , excellent
quarters ,well let down hocks . Ever wagging tail . He certainly does not know he is a veteran
and showed with unfailing enthusiasm . Best Veteran In Show .

nd McGillivray’s SH CH Antonine Cinderfella JW . Hard to believe this boy is almost 9 yrs old
as I remember him well as a youngster . Black who showed calmly and steadily . Head a little
strong for my taste but is very expressive . A lengthier cast dog who is clean in outline .
Super bone and feet, correct topline and good angulation . Moved soundly . I just preferred
the neater outline of the winner .
Minor Puppy Dog (7,0)

st . Watson’s Blackesk Jack and Victor . I liked this chocolate the minute he came in the ring.
So neat and clean in profile, well balanced and well schooled. Kind ,well defined head , good
eye colour , neat ears . Lovely reach of neck, excellent angulation front and rear . Excellent
bone without being coarse, tight feet . Moved soundly . Full of confidence and stood out for
his balance at this age . Best Puppy Dog

nd . McCulloch’s Frewlings Lee Westwood . A more substantial black who was unlucky to
meet the winner of the class . Well chiselled head, good eye colour though eyes a little loose
which will hopefully improve as his head develops . Beautiful in standing profile, lovely
shoulder and front angulation . Well off for bone,wearing a correct coat and there was
plenty of it . Not as steady on the move as the winner, but he certainly covers the ground .
Very promising .
Puppy Dog ((7,0)

st .Cook’s Exelby Norman . Balanced black. Well defined kind head, super eye colour which
only emphasizes his lovely expression . Good reach of neck, excellent fore and rear
angulation with a super topline linking the two . Good bone and nice feet . Super tail . Coat
was correct if a little sparse today . Moved very well .

nd . Tulloch’s Tullochmor Ultimo Finale . Bigger black . Lovely head, neat ears used to
advantage to make the most of his expression . Clean neck, excellent angulation and in
super coat . Correct tailset . Moved ok . Unfortunately sometimes he dips in his topline
which spoils his outline .
Junior Dog (2,0)

st .Tulloch’s Binnaig First Edition Via Tullochmor . Substantial black who presents a very nice
picture standing . Well defined head with a super stop and oh so expressive . Good reach of
neck, good shoulder placement, topline and a super rear with excellent width of stifle and
well let down hocks . Moved true and with drive .

nd. Percival’s Teazledown Mystery By Wynfaul . Slighter dog than the winner and ultimately
I would have liked a little more masculinity. Sweet head and expression and presents with a
good profile as his overall construction is good . Nothing really to dislike at all, I just wanted
more of him .
Yearling Dog (6,3)

st . Tulloch’s Binnaig Bonnach For Tullochmor JW. This was an excellent class of quality . I
first saw this yellow as a puppy last year and I liked him a lot then and I wasn’t disappointed
with him today . He has the most eyecatching profile, super clean throughout . Back this up
with a temperament that just wants to please and there is no denying his quality . Gorgeous
head and expression , wonderful lines from the tip of his nose to the end of his tail, super
angulation, correct spring of rib, good bone and wonderful tight feet . All wrapped up in a
fabulous correct coat . He just takes the eye with his showmanship . He needs to be
sympathetically handled to give his best as he is a livewire on the move but when he hits his
sweet spot he moves with power and a stride that eats the ground . In the challenge he just
kept taking my eye and I couldn’t deny him the CC, and with full agreement of my Co-judge
he later went Best In Show .

nd .Smith’s Meadowline Heartbreaker JW . Quality black . Another with an eyecatching
outline . Beautiful head, all angles correct, good barrel, correct coat, good bone and nice
tight feet . Didn’t move as positively as the winner but he is a promising dog who will do
well as he matures .

Novice Dog (9,7)

st Rawlinson and Balshaw’s Shanorrel Seamus Coleman At Halshimoor . Smaller black of
neat construction. Defined head with a willing expression. Good reach of neck, well placed
shoulders and good topline .Correct front and rear angulation . Enough bone for his size and
neat feet .Movement needs to tighten. A willing boy who tried his very best and fully
deserved his win here .

st Williamson’s Sharouns Inspector Gadget JW . Yellow that I have judged previously as a
puppy so it was interesting to see his progression . Well balanced young dog. Has a well
moulded head and appealing expression. Not the biggest but he shows himself to
advantage, and if he would settle he would be seen to his best . Good angulation with
enough bone and good feet . Excellent barrel rib, lovely topline . Moved well and with drive .
He was handled well in the challenge to make the shortlist. His best is yet to come,

nd. Snelgrove and Priddice’s Atkeenthorne Lord Pud Of Duskmeadow . Black who was
placed in previous classes and improved with experience as the day went on . Nicely made
dog who just carries his tail a little high on the move which spoils him . But otherwise he is a
very credible Labrador with plenty to like about him.
Post Graduate Dog (5,3)

st Morley’s Carpenny Paddy At Rockledge . More moderate dog than some who presents an
attractive picture . Appealing head with good stop and well set ears . Good reach of neck .
Well placed shoulders, good front angulation, enough bone and good feet . Level topline,
good turn of stifle . Enough coat to see it is correct . Moved true, just lacked a little drive
today .

nd Hallgarth’s Amberstope Gold Label at Chapelmanor. Good yellow of substance . Excellent
head . Super overall confirmation ,angulation front and rear correct and plenty of bone
giving him a look of strength and power . Strode out well on the move but unfortunately he
appeared a little heavy on the shoulders which just caused his topline to roll . Pity as there is
lots to like about him .
Limit Dog (14,4)

st Ennis- Holden’s Devonshire’s Yellowstone At Mariank (IMP USA ). This was a lovely class
and I was splitting hairs before deciding on my eventual winner . Substantial upstanding
yellow who has everything in the right place and in the right amount . Gorgeous masculine
head . Good earset, good reach of neck. Excellent shoulder placement, the right amount of
bone for his size . Excellent angulation throughout. Good barrel . Coat was ok, it will come

again . Feet need to tighten, and he was unsettled on the move which spoiled the overall
picture . He was , however, well handled to get the best out of him today . There is
improvement to come from him and he is a dog to watch in the future .

nd .Givan’s Sudeo Standard Bearer . Close up to the winner and similar comments apply .
Beautifully presented, although he wouldn’t use his ears when he needed which just spoilt
his expression . A more compact dog, excellent bone, correct angulation and topline . He
was amongst the best on the move today . I just preferred the scope of the winner .
Open Dog (5,1)

st Gilroy’s Albian’s Athos Cum Claychalk ( IMP BUL ) . Smart chocolate . Lovely shape in
profile. Very clean outline . Good well made head with good eye colour. Super front
construction, good through barrel. Level topline .Correct rear angulation. Moved steadily
and true .

nd .Dawson’s Beskerby Pageant . Yellow of good construction overall . A rangier dog than
others in the class and in the end I just preferred the balance of the winner . Beautiful
expression , good front and rear angulation, well let down hocks . Correct coat . Moved
soundly .
Champion Dog (1,0)

st .McCulloch’s SH CH A Sense Of Pleasure’s John Boy To Frewlings (IMP DEU ) Black who is
favourite of mine . Very smart dog who has a head to die for. Very clean throughout,
nothing done to excess. Presents a beautiful profile standing. Super angulation, excellent
strong topline,standing on the best of tight feet . In excellent coat and carrying no extra
weight . Moved with purpose. Handled with no fuss, showing himself steadily. In the end he
lost out to the younger dog for the ticket because of that dog’s pure ‘Look at me’ attitude
and showmanship, but I would take him home in a heartbeat . RCC .

st Percival’s CH Wynfaul The Wizard JW. Black, full of type with a smart clean outline .
Lovely appealing head . Excellent short coupled construction ,good bone and tidy feet .
Good front and rear angulation and level topline . Not in his best coat today which counted
against him in the challenge . A very willing to please dog who moved well .
