Contact: Jean Quinn Tel: 01324 851352  e-mail: vuldack@homecall.co.uk

The Labrador Club of Scotland receives a number of enquiries every year from people who are interested in buying a Labrador. To assist our Members and prospective buyers it was decided that the club would appoint a Puppy Co-ordinator.   This post was created to assist the Members of our Club who have puppies for sale by placing their details on a list which can then be passed on to prospective buyers.   Members with home bred puppies, (young adults or older dogs) for sale please contact Jean Quinn (at the above) stating their name, area where you live & telephone number.

Breeders should, when selling a puppy, supply the following:

a) A signed Pedigree Form.

b) A signed Kennel Club Registration Certificate.

c) An understanding and agreement of any Kennel Club endorsements.

d) A Diet Sheet.

e) An advice sheet on the puppy's vaccination programme, (until the vaccination programme is completed, your puppy must not mix with other dogs)

 f) A Form showing the dates the puppy was wormed and advice on when to next worm the puppy.

g) Copy of both the Sire and Dam's Hip/Elbow Score Certificates & Eye Test Certificate. Please be aware the Certificates will only show the status of the Sire & Dam, & cannot be taken as a guarantee for the status of the progeny.

h) Advice on Training the puppy.

Breeders should recommend buyers to make an appointment with their Vet as soon as possible after the purchase of the puppy for a health check. Also to discuss with them the worming and vaccination programme to be followed for the puppy and the Microchip Identification procedure, if this has not already been done. You are strongly advised to take out Insurance for your Puppy. (Usually the Breeder will offer you an insurance package upon the Purchase of your Puppy).

The buyer of any Labrador Retriever, Puppy or Adult, should be aware of the possible diseases both genetic and otherwise to which the breed is prone.

KC/BVA EYE CERTIFICATE & ECVO (European Eye Certificate)

These examinations are for a number of hereditary eye diseases. Certificates are valid for one year only. You are advised to check the date of examination on the relevant certificates. The ECVO Certificates are now (from 2004) published by KC/BVA. Dogs free from hereditary eye diseases are said to be unaffected. All Eye Certificates are valid for 1 year. Please be advised to check the date of examination on the relevant certificates.

KC/BVA  HIP SCORE CERTIFICATE

Hip dysplasia is a term, which encompasses a number of specific developmental and other abnormalities involving the hip joint. The lower the score the less the degree of hip dysplasia. Scores are published as Right Hip:Left Hip e.g. 4:5 Total 9. The Total score range is from 0 – 106. The Breed average Total Score is 15.

KC/BVA ELBOW DYSPLASIA SCHEME

A single grade is used to indicate the degree of elbow dysplasia. Each elbow is graded from 0-3, but only the highest value (right or left) is used as the overall grade. The lower the overall grade, the less the degree of elbow dysplasia. (Not all breeders participate in this scheme).
